Hunted:: Gathered: 08/27/11

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I've been catching up on some sleep. I slept over 9 hours yesterday... no alarms... no interruptions... just sleep. I also had the good intention of being good yesterday and staying at home to work on some lingering projects. Well, that was until I saw an ad for an estate sale with one promising item by one of my favorite designers, Bjorn Wiinblad.
I went to the estate sale and the item was still there, it was priced at $65. A bit rich for my blood but I decided to walk around with it while I thought about it. In walking around with it I discovered it had some damage... it was cracked and had been repaired. It was a deal breaker for me... unless I could get a deal because of the damage. I asked one of the estate sale brokers (I should have known better,I've been to their estate sales before and they are unfriendly and borderline rude) and he wouldn't budge on the price. I left it behind but decided to make the most of the day. I went to some thrift stores in the area and came home with these beauties:

I found a wonderful B&W throw with varying patterns for $2.

I also brought home my first Copco Skillet designed by Michael Lax. It was a little more than I would have liked to pay but since it was in great condition I bought it anyway. It was 50% too so it was still a good deal...

Take a look at this fun little walnut box with enamel decoration. It was made by the american company Bovano. Very retro... just look at those colors!

What are the odds... last week I shared my wonderfully vibrant wall hanging with hot pink and orange. I had never seen a woven piece in those colors. As luck would have it, I found another woven piece this week with pink as well! How crazy is that?

Lastly, I wanted to share my first Jens Quistgaard shaker. It is a later version that was made in Thailand but still exciting. I also wanted to mention that I bought a fun roll of wallpaper with a b&w pattern. You may have noticed it in some of my pictures.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I'll be linking up with Sophie and Selena this week.

Hunted:: Gathered: 08/20/11

Hey all! I'm back again this week to share some fun goodies! I'm sorry for my lack of commenting on some of your pages, but I find myself struggling to even get my daily fix! Hopefully I'll start feeling settled soon. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Since it IS summer still, I found some more cheer before we get into fall.

Plastics plastics plastics... Now, I have had my share of Heller finds and I've enjoyed them all but I never had the pleasure of finding non-primary and secondary colored ware... that is until this week! I found a couple of aqua plates that put a smile on my face. I also found a nice set of Nambe candlesticks.

In keeping with plastics I found this cool tissue holder designed by Makio Hasuike and produced by Gedy Design. It was hard to photograph, but there is a nice subtle detail by the opening.

As I mentioned last week, I found some candleholders at an estate sale. What I didn't tell you is that they are Dansk and were designed by Jens Quistgaard. I also found this cool amber fish/eel? paperweight. It looks familiar but for the life of me I haven't been able to find anything. Any one out there know? Is has some really cool details when you look at it from the front which makes me believe it's from the 50's or '60s.

At the estate sale where I found the beautiful wooden clock by Robert McKeown was this fantastic wall hanging. What really called out to me were the vibrant colors. Yes it really is hot pink! I loved it because it is so earthy but the great colors make it modern and fresh. Anyone know what else this might be called or what country it may be from? The colors are really throwing me for a loop...

Lastly... at a local thrift store I found this beautiful pair of bowls. I picked them up... noticed the rough matte texture on the outside of the bowls. Flipped them over and voila... I now have a pair of Krenit bowls! They aren't the large ones but I'll take what I can get, especially if they are at thrift store prices! These bowls were designed by Herbert Krenchel and the matte black is a fibre cement mixture.

How about you? Did you find any goodies this week?

Hunted:: Gathered: 08/13/11

Hey everyone!! I am back this week. I couldn't let you guys have all the fun. :) I wrapped up my second week of work and am enjoying it. My commute isn't the greatest but you do what you have to do.

I must confess that I managed to do a bit of thrifting these past couple of weeks and even attended a couple of estate sales. Here are my latest goodies:

Do you remember when I found my little feeder for people? I mentioned wanting to find the larger one so that I could use them for my cream and sugar and I did this week! I had seen the large one before but in plastic. I was thrilled when I found it in hand-blown glass. I also found the cute cutting board/ cheese tray in the back. It is made of Walnut, Cherry, Purpleheart and another wood that I have yet to identify. My little feeders are sitting on another little serving piece/ trivet that was made in Israel. I love the contrasting wood pieces. I think it is the element of craft that continues to attract me to wooden pieces.

This little guy made me really excited when I saw it sitting on the shelf. The way it was on the shelf made me believe it was a Robert Maxwell beastie at first. It turns out it is actually by Stoneware Designs West. There is speculation that SDW was started by ex-Maxwell employees so it makes sense that there would be some similarities.

It would seem that I have a David Stewart magnet as of late. I found this sweet little elephant planter that has been attributed to him. Now as part of my collection I have a camel, a cat and a regular planter. I am starting to think that the regular planter isn't one of his pieces though due to the clay color.

At the estate sale I found this sweet little card-holder/ trinket box. I just love the mid-mod colors and shapes on the lid. This piece was tucked away in a box filled with candles and candle-holders which is why I think it was still at the sale. I'll be sharing the candle-holders that I snagged with you next week. :)

Last but certainly not least is my favorite find of the week. At the same estate sale I found this beautiful clock by woodworker Robert McKeown. It is signed and dated 1980. This one is made with Mahogany, Walnut and Rosewood as well as some wonderfully vibrant resin pieces. You can view some of his other pieces here.

Can't wait to see what you've found! Hope you join the party at Sophie's, I know I'll be there!

{MADE}:: Wooden Table, Iteration #2

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was taking a woodworking class. I worked on a mock-up that ended up being too short as well as imbalanced.

This is my a model of my second iteration. It stands at a normal side table height and tries to maintain the same language as the first one. Oh how difficult yet rewarding it is to design...
