Unsolved Mysteries

This week I had a hard time finding small collectibles which is what I tend to look for. I searched high and low to no avail, sort of. However, when one door closes another opens and this door happened to be accessories.

I am always drawn to fun little bags and this was no exception. It could be used as a clutch or a small portfolio. If an accessory has hot pink I am very likely to pick it up.

I thought this bag was nice too. I love the color of the leather and the inlay of a silk persian rug/ tapestry. It's small and bohemian and tugs at my bohemian heartstrings.

Pink + Kilim, how can you go wrong? The last two bags came from the same estate and are in pretty good condition except for that vintage smell. Anyone know how to make it go away? I have a little pouch of baking soda in them but it's not doing much...

This next piece I picked up because I had a gut reaction to it. From memory I thought it looked incredibly similar to some Zeisel ceramic pitchers and so I decided to take a gamble. I've searched the internet but have not found one exactly like it. It could be vintage, it could be new, I really have no idea. It looks similar to some Blenko pitchers but not quite. However, in the process I know a little more about Zeisel's work for Heisey.

This piece is another mystery. I was drawn to the earthy tones and textures and it must have come from a donor who liked earthenware/ stoneware because there were a few pieces at this particular thrift.

It's a mystery because this is the mark I have to go off of. It has led me to discover Sturt Pottery from Australia but I don't think that's what this is. It could be British because they have similar stamps from what I've seen but I really have no idea. I would appreciate ANY help.

This is my last mystery. This was at the same thrift as the previous piece of pottery and I was drawn to it as well. It has a little bit of a purple-ish hue which I find to be nice.

If there are any Japanese or Chinese readers, can you tell me what this mark says? I don't even know what kind of characters they are. In trying to search for similar pieces I came across a Japanese potter that worked for Sturt pottery. I don't think it is one of his pieces but it's as far as I've gotten with the research. These pieces may give me a few new gray hairs!

Last week I said I would catch up with my Liebster award but I failed, I had a deadline this week that was stressing me out but now that it's done and over with I'm going to dedicate a post to the Liebster this week.

If you like any of the items that you see feel free to contact me, many of them will be put in the shop!

I'll be linking up with the usual suspects Selena and Sophie.

Have a great week!

  1. Oh, how I wish I could help you! I got nothing. But every single item you picked up is beautiful, my favorite is the covered urn. Great color.
Your luck is soon to turn, you will find many great things. That is my wish for you.

  2. The pottery is nice - I don't recog the mark on first one. I'm illiterate myself, but the family can read both Chinese and Japanese (incidentally, the characters are often the same). I'll ask later on to see if they recog it, but a lot of times the characters are so stylized that it's impossible to tell.. we have this problem with the kokeshi stamps all the time.
