Hunted::Gathered: 12/26/11

I hope everyone shared some great times these past few days, even if they were just about relaxing and enjoying the simple things in life. I wanted to share my finds one last time before the year was over and I'll wrap it up next week with the 11 Best Thrifty Finds of '11. I hope you will join, I'm planning on making it a little link party. Even though my post will be about my 11 Best Thrifty Finds you can include any "11 Best ________ of '11". Fill in the blank with whatever you choose and lets wrap up this great year and look forward to the next!

Now on to my finds for the week.

I'm sure you all know that I love all things Scandi... well here is the latest haul. I found a lone Arabia cup in the Anemone pattern, a JIE Gantofta figurine designed by Elsi Bourelius a vintage Dansk teak stopper that goes with this glass decanter by Gunnar Cyren, a Lundtofte server piece, and a vintage Dansk teak cheese tray by Vivianna Torun. I love the rich blue hues in the ceramic pieces and my heart goes pitter patter for teak!

I have to say that the thrift gods were definitely on my side this weekend. I went by a thrift that I had not been to in about a month. I saw this teapot and thought it was quite nice. It had been marked down from $60 to $40 but it was still a bit rich for my blood especially for a thrift.

I caressed all of the curves on the handle, the lid and the body but I still wasn't convinced.

 I was intrigued enough to take a picture of it to research it when I got home.

I turned it over and saw that it was designed by Russel Wright. I had never heard of this line of his and was skeptical when I read Designed in Japan. I figured it was a manufacturer similar to Oneida and that it was not a vintage piece because the condition was just too good.

Boy was I wrong! This is where the thrift gods come in. I walked away from the piece and continued on my merry way for the day. When I got home I decided to do some research on the piece and my heart sank. This is what I found along with this. I tried to convince myself that the piece would still be there the following day since it had obviously been sitting on the shelf due to the markdowns. I was there first thing in the morning. I went to the display case where it sat the day before and it was gone! Ahh crud, serves me right! I decided to search high and low before leaving the store and I am glad I did. They moved it to a different display case and to top it off it was 50% off. Thank you thrift gods!

Note: An iphone is in my near future (merry christmas to me!) which will hopefully prevent these occurrences in the future.

What did you find? Did you share at Selena's?

Hunted:: Gathered: 07/02/11

It's that time again! The time when I get to share my treasures of the week. I hope you had a great week and for the americans reading this, I hope you're enjoying the long weekend in celebration of our independence!

In my part of town, summer has definitely arrived! Temperatures reaching the 100 degree mark. Though I don't particularly enjoy the extreme heat, I was inspired by the thought of pleasant and moderate summer outings. I thought a sweet little set of teak snack bowls would be great with a vintage set of Vera Neumann napkins. You can't leave out the pyrex pitcher to be filled with iced tea along with some Dorothy Thorpe style glasses!

How sweet it would be to have this Arabia jam jar filled with something homemade...

If you're into refreshing with something a bit more boozy you can use this little teak guy with a built in bottle opener and corkscrew.

If you're in a cooler part of the world, how about you snuggle up with a fun pillow and play some games with family.  Remember... the glass is probably half full!

Express your love...

Nambe Heart

... and you'll likely be loved in return.

Jacaranda Hippo made in Zimbabwe

... and well... do some things just because you love to...

See you at Sophie's and Selena's!

THE ADVENTURES OF SHARK SCARF WEEK!

Hey lovelies, I hope you've had a great week. I know I did even though I spent a lot of my time preparing for an interview. I managed to do some thrifting earlier in the week and so I have some goodies to share. I hope you enjoy them!

I found these two beautiful cotton Vera Scarves. The red one has a silk? detailing/threading along the edges which is a nice subtle detail but I have to say that I just LOVE the black and white one. I don't know what it is about black and white and geometric patterns but they get me all the time! The dots gradate in sizes from one corner to the other.

I found another Vera Scarf that is a rayon/silk blend. This one still had the vintage Nordstrom price tag on it! The scarf was priced at $6.00 originally but was marked down to $2.90. Oh to buy scarves at those prices nowadays!

If you're curious, there is a fabulous blog post by the Vera Company that helps to date vintage Vera Neumann scarves. I believe mine are from the late '60s to early '70s.

Continuing with scarf week, I found a vintage Diane Von Furstenberg scarf that also has a gradated pattern. This one has green squares that expand to almost a solid fill pattern towards the middle. Look at that leopard that would be crawling up your back or side, how wild!

Last but not least (for scarves), I found a Richard Allan scarf with a beautiful flower pattern. The pattern reminds me a lot of Oh Joy!'s wallpaper design for Hygge & West. The colors are splendid and it feels oh so luxurious!

This week I acquired my first piece of Weller Pottery. It isn't nearly as 'valuable' as their typical pieces. It seems that a lot of the utilitarian pieces created by well-known potteries don't command the same prices as the 'art pottery' pieces do. It is something to keep in mind if you plan on reselling them. I must say though that I really enjoy the cradle on this casserole. I love the Art Nouveau Styling of the handles.

I'm excited to share this next piece because I love enamelware! Even though this piece has some damage on the lid I could not pass it up. Due to finding my first Finel piece, I knew what the bottom of their pans looked like so I had an idea of what it was even though it was not stamped. I also knew I had seen the same style of handle on the lid before. I had to do some research when I got home but it is always nice to have some idea of where to start. It turns out that this piece is designed by Seppo Mallat for Arabia/ Finel. I just love the teak handle on this baby!

In keeping with the enamelware, I found a couple of fun colored enamel bowls. One is in a bright yellow and the other in a great teal. Did you know that these bowls come with a detachable handle? Neither did I! Unfortunately mine did not have the handle and for the life of me I can't remember where I read about it so I can't even link to it. Don't you just hate it when that happens!

I also found some more LP's, I'm temporarily hooked! I just had to pick up The Cure's Quadpus there on the top left. The LP on the top right is another album with the cover design by S Neil Fujita. *(update) I believe the bottom two are designed by Sam Suliman.*

This last LP has a cover designed by Barbara Brown/Peters. Like Josef Albers and Gerry Olin, she designed album covers for Command Records under the direction of Charles E. Murphy. There was an Exhibition in New York at the end of 2009 which included several notable album covers by the aforementioned designers. You can take a look at them here.

Also, if you enjoy album cover designs then just take a look at this Flickr profile, they have so much eye candy... its incredible! I love Phillip Glass and I'd never seen his album covers. They are amazing as well!

*I know that I throw a lot of random names out there. I promise I will get around to making posts about particular designers with larger samples of their work. *

I'll be linking up with two lovely ladies again and I'll be popping around to see what you've found!

Hunted:: Gathered: 03/21/11

After my binge thrifting from last week I took this week a little easy. I still managed to find a couple of items which you will see in this post. What you will also see are some items from earlier in the year that I never photographed nor posted. I hope you don't mind. They are still items from thrifts, estate sales and swap meets.
Firstly, I have been trying to stay away from the clothing sections at thrifts. That being said, I saw this cute sweater as one of their rack-end displays and loved the color! It was also in great shape. Maybe I had a little St. Patrick's day in me after all.

LL Bean Sweater

Left: Manchini Vase                               Center: Rosendahl Votives                       Right: Ben Seibel for Iroquois

I found a neat vase with a cool texture in white, the bottom read "Designed by Manchini" . Who is Manchini? No one really knows. If it is by Sablo Manchini, then I have myself a piece by a Mid-Century potter. The center votives are a newer item, but they are Scandinavian, and I LOVE just about anything Scandinavian. They are by the company Rosendahl and were designed by Lin Utzon. The last white item is a creamer designed by Ben Seibel for the impromptu line. For some reason, I am always intrigued by creamers and tea/ coffee pots.

Now I really did not have a need for any more trivets, but who can resist a cute owl. He is only a few inches big, but really cute. I also found a cute cocktail mixer with a design by Georges Briard that reads "The higher you go, the harder you fall. "

There is something about native-american pottery that usually catches my attention. It could have something to do with my fascination of tradition and history or maybe it was just the color and etch-work in this case. This one is marked as a Navajo piece on the bottom. I don't really know much about the different native-american traditions but it was nice enough to bring home.

              Muncie Pottery?                                                               Oasis Pottery

The item on the left has me stumped. It looks like a piece of older Ohio pottery but I really don't know. It came paired with 3 other items including the one next to it and the ones below. The taller fuschia/ blue vase is a newer item by Oasis Pottery. Aren't those colors amazing?

These two earth-toned pieces are the ones that initially attracted me to the set. The one to the left is attributed to Jens Quistgaard for Nissen. The pattern is called relief. The one to the right has a Toyo sticker and is signed underneath it. I love its proportions. I love how plump the body is in relation to the opening.

The last items I am sharing this week are both Arabia pieces. The one on the left is from the Ara line for Arabia. The one on the right is a salad plate in the Valencia pattern. The beautiful pattern was designed by Ulla Procope. The color is absolutely striking and incredibly hard to capture!

I was a little late in posting this week but I hope you enjoyed some of my latest finds all the same. What did you find?
